America today is a nation divided. We are, for now, still a nation of flags, of standing for the national anthem. But we are also a nation of flag-burning, of kneeling at the national anthem. Why do so many people who live in America seem to hate America? What is at the root of the contempt and disgust that so many of our citizens have towards our nation — even as they proclaim themselves to be the real patriots?
It’s easy enough to say “postmodernism,” “Gramscian damage,” and so on — but against what wall in Fortress America were these memetic weapons of mass demoralization deployed?
To answer that, we have to look at the 400-hundred-year-old concept of American exceptionalism.
